FoodSpots is an iOS app that turns Instagram reels into a personal restaurant map. Share a reel from Instagram, and moments later the restaurant is saved with its name, rating, hours, photos and a pin on a map, with the reel still attached to it. I designed and built every part of it with Claude Code, having never built an iOS app before: the app, the share extension, the database, and an extraction pipeline that coordinates a scraper, GPT and Google Places. It hasn't launched yet; I use it every week.
What I wanted was simple: when I save a reel, what I'm really saving is the place in it. I should be able to search my saved places easily, know quickly which reel talks about which restaurant, and keep the reel attached for whenever I want to go back to the source.
